Jane Gilchrist Obituary
Gilchrist, Jane Brinton Ann Arbor, MI, Age 74, died on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at her home. Jane was born in Ridley Park, PA on March 30, 1936, the daughter of Margaret K. and Rowland C. Gersen. She grew up in Kennett Square, PA and graduated from Kennett Consolidated High School in 1954. Jane then graduated from Connecticut College for Women in 1958 with a degree in Zoology after which she took a year of additional training at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia to obtain her certification as a medical technologist. It was during this training that she met her future husband Dean. From late 1959 to 1961 she worked at Delaware Hospital in Wilmington, DE. On September 9, 1961 she married Dean S. Gilchrist who was then a member of the US Air Force. During this time she worked at a hospital in Marquette, MI. Then, in 1962 after his service in the Air Force, the couple moved back to Wilmington, DE where Jane worked as a lab technician for the DuPont Company while her husband studied engineering at the University of Delaware. She then took a number of years off to raise children, Scott who was born November 13, 1962 and Susan born October 24, 1968. After several moves the couple settled in Ann Arbor where she returned to work as an assistant manager at Jo Ann Fabrics. She then took a position at Great Lakes Bank in the accounting department which later became TCF bank where she retired as accounts payable coordinator in 1998. Jane is survived by her husband, Dean, who says "I often wonder how lucky I was to marry such a wonderful person," her son Scott, her daughter Susan, her brother Rowland and three grandchildren. There will be a memorial service held in Jane's memory at 2 p.m., Friday, June 4, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor, 1423 Washtenaw, Ann Arbor, MI. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Jane's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
